What really got me going again with metal detecting was at long last finding a club in my local area. Several years ago I got a list of clubs with a C-Scope newsletter and saw there was one at Mansfield which isn't far from me. I duly sent off a letter with SAE asking for membership details but I never got a reply. I continued detecting alone until I was browsing the web again and came across the NCMD site. This had a more uptodate list of clubs and I noticed there was now an Ashfield MD club which it right on my doorstep. I duly sent off the same letter again (wonderful things word processors !) and soon received a phone call from the club treasurer inviting me to a club meeting that night ! I went along, was voted in as a member and the rest, as they say, is history. The Ashfield Metal Detecting Club meets at The Rifle Volunteer, Forest Road, Sutton In Ashfield at 7-30pm on the first Monday in month. The club organises regular mid week and weekend digs which are well attended. There is a 'Find of the Month', raffles, social events, guest speakers and a club library amongst other things. |
